The “Nobody’s Perfect” Essay Contest encouraged students to honor their mothers (or role models) who encourage them to pursue their dreams. Many of these students faced challenges and hardships in pursuing their dreams. The Nobody’s Perfect Essay Contest gave students the opportunity to express their gratitude for their role model using creative writing. Ten finalists were selected to attend the brunch with their mother’s and immediate family. Three winners were chosen to receive prizes toward achieving their dreams.

The brunch was held at the Marquis Market on Saturday, May 11, 2013. J. Cole’s mother, Kay Cole attended the brunch in his absence. Students watched a short video message from J.Cole. The finalists received various prizes such as a, sewing machine, stipends to basketball, dance, and science camp and gift certificates.
